What is ALPHA?
Alpha is a series of interactive sessions that explore the basics of the Christian faith. It’s about the big questions of life, like “What am I here for?” and “What’s the purpose of my life?” Alpha is for anyone who is exploring the Christian faith for the first time or wanting to know more about the tradition they have grown up with.
Alpha began at a church called Holy Trinity Brompton in London in 1977. Nicky Gumbel, an Anglican priest and Christian convert from atheism, took over the Alpha program and led it to become one of the foremost models for re-engaging Christians and welcoming non-believers to Christianity. Alpha runs in 169 countries and over 29 million people have participated.
Churches in the Archdiocese of Chicago have been using Alpha for a number of years. They have found that Alpha offers a non-threatening way to learn about our faith, helps to revitalize parish communities, and to engage members of the parish community not normally active.
Our Alpha will run from 6:30 – 8:15 on Thursday evenings beginning September 26 in the Parish Hall (church lower level) and it lasts 11 weeks. Feel free to attend the first one and try it out. There is no pressure to continue.
